Matte lips can look incredibly beautiful and elegant, if you know how to wear this type of makeup. Today, let’s have a look at some beauty tips on how to master the art of applying and wearing matte lip color:

1. Prepare your lips
Matte lipstick textures tend to emphasize all the flaws of your lips, therefore, it’s important to prepare your lips and make them smooth and soft. Exfoliating your lips can be a great solution to get rid of peeling skin, in order to reveal baby soft lips, on which your makeup will glide easily and beautifully. You can prepare a lip scrub at home: just mix some sugar with olive oil and honey and gently massage your lips with it for couple of minutes, then rinse; you lips will feel baby soft and smooth.

2. Add moisture
In order to keep matte lipstick fresh, make sure to moisturize your lips before applying your lipstick, because matte texture tends to dry out the lips, creating undesirable, caked on effect. You can moisturize your lips using your favorite lip balm or apply some argan, coconut or sweet almond oil on your lips, thus, preparing them for your sophisticated and elegant matte makeup.

3. Let the color pop
If you want to get the true shade of matte lipstick, apply a concealer all over your lips prior to applying your lip color. Whether you decide to go for a bright red, flashy pink or nude matte lips, concealing them in advance will help get very neat and beautiful result!

4. Start off by lining your lips
Apply a lip liner all over your lips before applying your matte lipstick. Using lip liner will help you get neat, clean and beautiful result. Professional makeup artists use this tip all the time. Find a lip liner of the same shade as your lipstick and line your lips with it, filling them in. This way you are creating a base for your matte lipstick to glide on; the color will look a lot richer and more intense. Lip liner will also help your lipstick last longer.

5. No rubbing
Avoid rubbing your lips together when applying matte lip color, because matte textures don’t work the same way as sheer ones do. Instead, use a lip brush, in order to spread the product all over your lips evenly and if you want to get more precision. Use a synthetic lip brush for this purpose, make sure to cover up every little corner of your lips for elegant and professional looking result.

6. Another coat
If you want your lip color to last even longer, then, after applying a lipstick, blot your lips with a tissue and reapply the lipstick again. This tip will help add intensity to your lip color and you will be astonished how much longer your lipstick will last. Blotting your lips with paper or tissue will help you avoid cakey and over-dry looking lips.

7. Precision tip
In order to keep your lipstick application precise and perfect, make sure to clean up the edges using the same concealer that you used prior to applying your lip color. You can use a small, synthetic concealer brush or use a simple Q-tip to go around your lips, cleaning up all the imperfections and flows.

Yes, it might seem like applying matte lipstick might take you some time, but it, definitely, worth it, if you want to rock this beauty trend and get flawless looking pout.

I hope you found it useful. Please feel free to share your own tips on how you like to wear matte lipstick in the comment’s section below.

7 Things That Happen When You Wear Black Lipstick to Work

A cautionary tale.

7 Things That Happen When You Wear Black Lipstick to Work

Sadly, our reality isn't a Beyoncé music video or March Jacobs' Fall 2016 show, which means black lipstick worn IRL will always be a little jarring. Badass, but jarring. So when I decided to wear it at the office recently, I knew there'd be a slew of reactions—and pitfalls because dark pigments are as understandably demanding as his Purple Majesty.

Full disclosure: When I tried this experiment, I wore Bite Beauty's Black Truffle from their Amuse Bouche collection. It isn't 100% black as it has violet undertones, but it ended up being a fortuitous tribute to his Purpleness as I wore it on the day he died. (I'm devastated, can you tell?)

Anyways, here are a few things that will inevitably happen if wear black, or really any other super-dark lip shade, to work.

1. People will stare at your lips while you're talking to them.

If they don't say anything about your gothic lips, but they're thinking about saying something. Trust.

2.If someone *is* going to say something, it will be a compliment.

That was my experience at least and I'm preeetty sure everyone meant it. And yes, I work in a creative field and things aren't as buttoned-up, but if it doesn't go against your office dress code, I think you'll be surprised at how positively people will react. I was.

3. You'll feel like HBIC.

The thing about statement lipstick is that it automatically amplifies what you're wearing. Because of this, I felt like a much cooler version of myself. It's kind of like going bleach blonde à la Taylor Swift. It makes you this whole new, edgier person.

4. Eating gracefully will be damn near impossible.

See our list of lip-color-friendly foods. But regardless of how careful you are, be prepared for messy-as-hell-looking coffee cups, bite marks on your sandwiches, and lip color bleeding if you're so daring as to grab soup for lunch.

5.You're going to need to reapply your color at least 1,004 times because perfection is non-negotiable.

This means you've got to have a hand mirror and your choice lipstick at arm's length at all times. If you don't, you'll pay a dear, dear price. (See below).

6.At some point, you're going to forget you're wearing black lipstick.

At the end of the work day, when you're completely worn down by all of your to-do's, you'll be in such a daze that you forget about the super-needy lip you're wearing. You'll smile, head nod, and even talk to people without realizing that you've swallowed half your lip color and you look like you've just downed seven glasses of red wine. You'll vow never to make the same mistake again.

7. Happy hour, anyone?

After fixing the mess that was your neglected dark lip, you'll be back in the I'm-feeling-myself-zone and cursing yourself for not having made after-work plans. You want, nay NEED to be seen. So you'll either make some with your always-done-for-happy-hour friend or coworker. My suggestion for a watering hole? A wine bar that will have a nice, purply glass of shiraz waiting for you.

12 Makeup Tutorials To Try On Easter Sunday

Not every makeup look is appropriate for a holy holiday with your family. Here are 12 that are.
12 Makeup Tutorials to Try on Easter Sunday

Easter Sunday is in three days and if you’re celebrating the holiday, you are more than aware of the fact that Easter isn’t the best time to wear your smokiest eye makeup or dark purple lip. Especially when you’ll be sitting in a religious service and visiting with relatives that may or may not be holier than thou.

Instead of taking the risk (although if you considered it you are my kind of makeup junkie), play it safe with some looks that range from neutral to pink to pastel. These looks play to the individual styles of makeup lovers all over the world, so you’ll be sure to find the right one before Sunday.

Choose one favorite, if you can.

1. Pink Liner & Matte Red Lips
Pink and red may be Valentine’s official colors, but they also work well for Easter. The glittery pink liner in this look is to die for and works at being subtle enough for the holiday, while still exuding playfulness and creativity.

2. Doll Eyes Makeup Tutorial
With this look, it’s all about the eyes, particularly the falsies.

3. Casey Holmes’ Spring Makeup Tutorial
This is a great way of incorporating color into your Easter celebration. The multi-hued result reminds us of a setting sun or field of flowers. Love it!

4. Glowing Spring Makeup Tutorial (great for acne-prone skin)
If you’re looking for a simple, pared down look, this is it! Featuring a bold red-orange lip and shimmering eyes, this look draws attention to the skin, which is glowing and radiant.

5. Golden Goddess Makeup Tutorial
We LOVE this look. While the all-over bronzed glow makes it more of a summer look, it’s too beautiful to not show off to your family members. Especially the ones you don’t see often.

6. Katy Perry Inspired Makeup Tutorial
Bright lips and bright eyes are what make up this beautiful spring look.

7. Easy Purple Makeup Tutorial
Easter is known for its pastels, but there’s one color in the bunch that stands out over the rest of ’em and that’s pastel purple. The makeup tutorial below will teach you how to wear the best color of the holiday in a way that’s classy and trendy.

8. Orange & Copper Spring Makeup
Leave it to Carli to create a beautiful look featuring two bold colors: orange and copper. In no way is this overdone for Easter; this is one of the most appropriate looks of the bunch! We love it.

9. Full Face Makeup Tutorial with Pop of Color
Teal and coral? The video says “summer makeup tutorial” but this looks more like the ultimate Easter makeup tutorial to me.

10. Bright Color with Nude Makeup
This is how editorial does bright makeup. The purple liner is edgy, sophisticated and something you’d see out of Vogue’s pages.

11. Taupe Eyes & Plum Lips
The lips are a bit darker, but the berry tone makes it an acceptable and alluring daytime look.

12. Dramatic Duochrome Eyes
Let’s end this list with a bang, shall we? It comes in the form of Manny Mua’s duochrome makeup tutorial that will bring the fun to any gathering. Featuring beautiful colors like blue and purple, this look is prettier than any ol’ Easter Egg.

12 Fresh Spring 2016 Nail Art Trends | Makeup Tutorials

As Mugatu would say, “These nail art trends… They’re so hot right now.”

12 Fresh Spring Nail Art Trends
The birds are chirping, kids are painting Easter eggs and with the amount of chocolate bunnies I’ve been stuffing in my face, it’s safe to say that Easter is here and spring has, officially, sprung.

As we’ve been saying all year long, spring is the time for fresh trends that breathe life into our stale, now-overdone transitional winter wardrobe. This means it’s time to think outside the box which is exactly what these nail art trends do.

These designs are taken from the S/S 2016 runway and will breathe new life into your spring style.

Keep on scrolling to see the freshest spring nail trends from chrome to opalescent.

1. Chrome
This spring, chrome will be big, big, big. From chrome polish that reflects off of interior lighting to futuristic stripes that predict minimalism’s long residency in fashion, it was all about metallic.

2. Rose Gold
Rose gold is having a moment right now. Rose gold technology, rose gold makeup… It was only inevitable that nails hop on the fast-paced rose gold bandwagon. This nail polish color is easy to fall in love with and is neutral enough to work for any occasion, with any outfit.

3. Minimalist Accent Art
If you’re not a fan of the over-the-top designs of today’s nail art, rest assured knowing that the “less is more” trend is slowly taking root. We saw it with makeup and are slowly seeing it with nail art. Does this mean acrylics are over too?!

4. Negative Space
Negative space is one nail art trend I can totally get behind and sincerely hope becomes a classic, much like the red nail. I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t have the time or steady hand to create bouquets of flowers, city skylines and other insanely detailed designs, but what I can do is create negative space nail art that focuses on clean lines or dots and the natural beauty of the nail. It’s a great alternative for ladies who love nail art but don’t have the skills or schedule.

5. Matte… Anything
We get it: matte is hot and will never go out of style. Next.

6. Sheer Opalescent Sheen
This is a nice little trend I’ll be glad to see more of. I love the naturalness and elegance of the opalescent nail. It’s a light wash of color with an iridescent glimmer that adds a touch of vintage sophistication to one’s aura.

7. Outlined Dimensions
If you can master this design, you’re a badass who should not be reckoned with. It’s not easy to outline your finger with two different colors, but the final result is a beautiful, versatile design that can be easily adapted to suit anyone’s personal style or OOTD.

8. The Nude French
The nude French is one of the many modern takes on the classic French tip. This version involves a nude base and any color tip you desire.
The French is getting a sophisticated manicure with a nude base coat.

9. Interpretive Art

Not interpretive art as much as it is quick, feather-like strokes that resemble paint strokes or a feather in mid-flight. This nail art was huge on the S/S 2016 runway and we can see why: it’s a gorgeously evocative design that adds instant romanticism to your look.

10. Minimalist Metallic Stripes

Silver, gold, rose gold, it’s all about metallics this spring. If the full-on polish is too much of a commitment, opt for a minimalist design that features vertical or horizontal metallic stripes. You can even change the number of stripes on each nail to give your nail art some more Oomph.

11. White, Textured Designs
Add some texture to that, girl! What are you doing with a basic white nail? Ain’t nobody likes that. But with that said, really, what are you doing with a basic white nail? Add some texture with some caviar, shatterglass or other add-ons. Get creative.

12. The Redefined French Tip
The French tip faded into irrelevancy a long time ago, but this year it’s making a comeback with several redefined versions that include a more squared French tip, a diagonally split design and other color and finish you could imagine.

We are so over the nude nails every celeb has sported on the red carpet thus far this year, we can’t wait for the fun, creative, edgy looks of spring! Nail art is growing past its adolescent stage into a mature, sophisticated and elegant phase in which nails are seen as part of a complete package and not the package itself.

Nail Art Tutorial: Tribal / Aztec Print Over Neon Gradient

Brushes used:
Detailer brush from this nail art brush set:
A regluar, tiny paintbrush from a craftstore, trimmed to make thinner.
Here’s a video on how you can do it yourself:

1. Apply a basecoat and paint your nails white. This is important especially because we’re using neons because this will make the colors pop! Let this dry COMPLETELY

2. Apply some liquid latex around your nail. You can also use tape

3. Take out a makeup sponge and make sure there’s no dust particles on it. You can do this by taking some tape and just firmly stick on the sponge and then remove it.

5. Paint yellow and pink polish onto the sponge, slightly overlapping each other

6. Dab the sponge on your nail to transfer the polish. Move it a bit up and down and from side to side to make sure you get polish on the whole nail and to blend the colors

7. Repeat the last two steps on each nail, making each layer dry a couple of minutes before adding another one. I just recently realised that you can do two nails without reapplying polish to the sponge and this saves you some time and polish :D

8. Keep adding more layers until you’re satisfied with the gradient.

9. Let everything dry for a few minutes

10. Remove the liquid latex / tape and clean up with a flat brush dipped in polish remover

11. Apply a fast drying topcoat and let dry completely

12. Make the pattern as shown, I’m using black acrylic paint. If you make ant mistakes you can easily scrape off the paint with a toothpick and just redo it

13. When you’re done, let everything dry for a couple of minutes and apply a fast drying topcoat. If you’re like me and what matte nails, just apply a matte topcoat after the shiny one c:
