Three Twists on A Classic Top Knot

Holy heat wave! Instead of sloppily throwing your hair into a bun when the weather gets steamy, why not try out one of these sleek, easy topknots, created by editorial stylist Britney Williams of Bumble & bumble? You'll turn heads and keep your cool at the same time.

Three Twists on A Classic Top Knot

1. Very Voluminous

When it comes to creating a topknot, placement is key — it should sit flat on the top of the head, and not too far back on the head. The hair in the back must be completely smooth, and every part of the hairline should be brushed straight upward.

Pull all of your hair upward, making sure the back is tight and smooth. Secure with a hair bungee or a small elastic.

To create the volume, backcomb the ponytail for fluffiness.

Once you're done, twist the hair into a circular shape around the elastic.

Secure the bun with hairpins. Since you backcombed the hair, you shouldn't need too many to keep it in place.

Finally, secure the look with styling spray.

2. Sleek and Architectural

Start this topknot by creating a tight ponytail at the top of the head.

Take two sections and create a rope braid, simply twisting them together. Next, go over the braid with hairspray to smooth all of the flyaways.

Twist the rope braid around the elastic.

Secure the topknot in place with hair pins.

The final look.

3. Braided from the Back

Begin by flipping your head upside down and creating a French braid from the nape of the neck. You might want to ask a friend to help you with this part!

Continue braiding until you've reached the ends of your hair, and temporarily secure the braid with an elastic.

Next, pull the rest of your hair (including the braid) into a tight ponytail on the top of the head.

Once you've secured the ponytail for the topknot, take the top portion of the braid out.

To create a taller topknot, fold the hair in half over itself and secure it there with a hair pin.

Continue twisting the hair around the elastic, pinning it into place.

This look is statement-making from the front...

...and from the back!

LAST MINUTE CURLS FOR A BUSY WOMAN

Women are busier than ever these days and many simply don’t have time to get ready for work, get the kids off to school, get dressed, put make up on and a complicated hairstyle. And yet, their desire to look good and fashionable never goes away. What is the answer? How about a super easy hairstyle with curls that takes less than 5 minutes to complete?

With only a hot curling iron, an elastic hair tie and a bit of hair spray, you can have a curly hair style that will look elegant and beautiful all day long. This will save you so much time in the morning or before you go out to a party or date so you can concentrate on other things and relax a bit too.

Let the curling iron heat up to the correct temperature. While you wait, gather all your hair high on your head in a loose ponytail. Use a covered elastic band to protect your hair from damage. Flip the ponytail over the front of your face and separate chunks of hair out for curling. Use the hot iron to curl each section separately as shown in the picture. Curl all the sections, give a spritz of hairspray to help the curls stay longer and take out the hair elastic. Toss your pretty curls with your fingers and you’re ready to go.
