The beauty world is constantly changing – just when you’re starting to get bored of one trend, another one comes up to get you excited again.
The topknot was big for a while, next the sock bun, and then the half bun. And lately, I’ve been seeing another hairstyle trending in our Instagram feeds, and it’s so totally ‘90s: the double buns. For those of us who grew up in the 90s will most associate this look with Bjork, Gwen Stefani and The Tribe.
This throwback hairdo has been sizzling hot, and I do not see it ending anytime soon. I just can’t get enough of this super cute hairstyle.
What’s cool about these buns is you can wear them in a lot of different ways. You can wear them tight, loose, half up & half down, braided… any way you rock them they look amazing. I guarantee you, no matter what your hair type or your sense of style, you can find love in this look.
If you’re interested in re-creating this look, know that it’s essential to try it on dirty hair. Clean strands are too slippery and will likely slide out of the style. Douse your next-day (or even third-day!) mane with a healthy spritz of texturizing spray before styling: the extra grit will help hold your look in place. You won’t need help and even the beginners can make it in a few minutes. My favorite (and easiest) way to rock these buns is to throw my hair up into two tight, high ponytails, then I twist them into buns, and secure with bobby pins or elastics. Even better, taking them down reveals loose, sexy waves — no heat necessary.
Even Kendall Jenner couldn’t resist and she took the nostalgic hairstyle for a spin. The model twisted her raven tresses into two knots on the top of her head, and sprinkled a trail of glitter along her center parting for an alternative look at Coachella.
